Healthy Beginnings

June, July & August 2018

Woman surrounded by children

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO CREATE “NEW BABY BASKETS” FOR LOCAL FAMILIES!

It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a caring community to help new moms and dads prepare for parenthood!

Rappahannock United Way is collecting new, age-appropriate supplies for new born babies to build “New Baby Baskets” for their parents.  Healthy beginnings for babies and young children are vital for early childhood health and success.  Join with us to help local families build strong foundations to reach important health and developmental milestones by donating items or hosting a “Community Baby Shower” of your own.

Our goal is to provide “New Baby Baskets” to 500 local families through our partnership with Healthy Families Rappahannock Area and other community partners.

In addition we are looking for items to boost School Nurse kits at 50 local elementary schools.

37% of families with children in Virginia have income below the ALICE Threshold, which means their income might not be enough to cover the basics of food, shelter, childcare and healthcare.

Bring together friends, neighbors or colleagues and host a Baby Shower to collect items from our New Baby Wish List. Here are some resources for ideas and tools to help you get started.

Family economic hardship is consistently associated with negative outcomes for child health and academic success. Supporting parents is proven to be the best way to prevent adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) such as child abuse and neglect.
