Impact Your Community

Volunteer at Rappahannock United Way to improve the lives of individuals and families in the Greater Fredericksburg area.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Even during these uncertain times, there are a few ways you can volunteer with us and still practice social distancing! Here are some ways you can help:

October - November 2020

Set local students up for success in hybrid learning by donating new school supplies to Rappahannock United Way!

For everyone's safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, we ask that supplies are purchased online and shipped directly to us. Wishlists have been created that follow school supply lists from area schools. You can find them here:

If you need to drop off in person please email our Volunteer Engagement Assistant Emily for appointment: eatkins@rappahannockunitedway.org

We are focused on creating a community that is hopeful, resilient and self sufficient. That all starts with making your voice heard through your vote.

Important 2020 Voting deadlines:

  • October 13 is the last day to register to vote.⁣
  • You can request an absentee ballot online or from your local registrar and you have until October 23 to do so.⁣
  • In person early voting already started in Virginia and runs until Oct.31.⁣
  • November 3rd is the last day to postmark a mail-in ballot.

Literacy and early learning are critical to ensuring children are ready for kindergarten and reading at grade level by third grade. We are collecting new, age appropriate books for distribution to Head Start Classrooms throughout our area as well as constantly updating our virtual Storytime on Facebook and YouTube. We still need volunteer readers!

  • Order online and donate new age appropriate books directly to us - Amazon Wishlist
  • Make a video of yourself reading a children's story book - How To Steps
  • Send the video to us to share on our social media channels - How To Steps

Tax Program Volunteering

We focus on helping hard working households gain the financial skills needed to be financial self-sufficient.  We need a team of dedicated volunteers to help individuals prepare their tax returns and share financial resources virtually. You do NOT need to be a tax expert to volunteer; we provide training and support.
