FREE Tax Preparation Helps Student with Car Repairs
College student Darrell Ross Jr., of Fredericksburg, heard about the Rappahannock United Way’s FREE Tax Preparation and Financial Check-Up program from a co-worker.
“I love the program. It’s wonderful,” said Ross, who has had his taxes prepared at RUW for the past three years. “As long as they’re doing business, I’ll be here.”
For Ross, saving money on preparation fees and getting the most he can from his tax refund is extremely helpful. In the past, he’s used his refund to make car repairs.
“I usually use my refund to keep my car going,” said Ross, who is a college student at Northern Virginia Community College and also works at Lowes. “Sometimes car repairs are a lot more than what you make on a check.”
Ross only has one regret. He wishes he had known about the free service sooner.
“I’m always in and out,” said Ross. “I don’t have any complaints. I wish I knew about it when I was 18.”
