Prosper Tax Services (VITA Free Tax Preparation Services) provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families with low to moderate income, offering them the support needed to maximize their refunds and achieve greater financial stability. This initiative directly aligns with our efforts to strengthen economic opportunity and promote financial resilience across our region.

Prosper Tax Services provides free basic income tax return preparation but we can not provide tax advice. To get advice and information on your taxes you can contact the Fredericksburg Taxpayer Assistance Center Office. They are located at 1320 Central Park Boulevard, VA 22401. You can call to schedule an appointment (844) 545-5640.
Prosper Tax Services provides free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to taxpayers who had a general household income of $80,000 or less in 2023. There are 'out of scope' tax areas that Prosper Tax Services can NOT assist with such as if you have income from renting properties, farm or fishing income, if you use your home as a business, or any itemized deductions. Tax Clients Must Bring the Following Items with them to File a Tax Return: * Income Forms: W2s, 1099s (-INT, -DIV, -NEC, -R, -MISC, etc.), plus a list of expenses if self-employed * Unemployment Forms: 1099-G, if applicable * Childcare or Dependent Care Information such as providers name, address, tax ID number, and amount paid in 2024, if applicable * Photo ID for any and all person(s) filing * Original Social Security Card for each person filing and all dependents (original documents, no copies) * Other Tax Related Documents such as interest statements, loan documents, retirement statements, list of charitable contribution deductions, etc. * Household Health Insurance Coverage Information 1095-A if applicable (must report coverage on 2024 taxes if you or a family member were enrolled in the Health Insurance Marketplace, otherwise reporting health insurance coverage on 2024 tax returns is not required.) * Direct Deposit Information to receive your tax refund via Direct Deposit (blank check or Bank name, Account Type - Checking or Savings, Routing Number, and Account Number). In the event that you owe the IRS, Direct Debit is also available via this method or you can mail payment to the IRS. Any payment arrangements need to be made with the IRS directly on their website. * Married Filing Jointly? Both parties must be present to sign the return prior to filing
Visit www.IRS.GOV/Refund to find the status on your federal refund. Visit www.Tax.Virginia.Gov to find the status of your Virginia State refund. Rappahannock United Way is not able to track the status of your refund.
Visit www.SSA.GOV/MYACCOUNT/ to request a replacement Social Security Card for you or your family members. You can also visit the local Social Security Office at 9915 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Fredericksburg VA 22407 or Phone 1-800-774-1213. Remember you can't file your tax return at a VITA Tax Site without official Social Security Cards for all individuals on your tax return.
